Nigeria’s Electoral Commission Hosts Benin Republic Counterparts

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria has welcomed a delegation from the Commission Electorale Nationale Autonomie (CENA) of Benin Republic. The visit, which took place on Monday at INEC’s Headquarters in Abuja, aimed to understudy Nigeria’s electoral processes and procedures.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, warmly received the delegation, led by CENA’s President, Dr. Sacca Lafia. Yakubu explained that CENA is preparing for its most complex election in 2026, which will involve conducting three elections within three months.

The CENA delegation is particularly interested in learning about Nigeria’s legal framework for elections, election budgeting, security, and the use of technology. In response, INEC has drawn up an elaborate program for the visit, covering all aspects of the electoral process.

Dr. Sacca Lafia expressed gratitude for the hospitality and noted that the experience will enhance Benin Republic’s electoral processes. The visit demonstrates the commitment of both electoral commissions to peer learning and support.

Prof. Yakubu assured the delegation that INEC will fully share its experience and provide relevant documents to enrich their understanding of Nigeria’s electoral processes.
