Lawmaker Apologises for Assaulting Bolt Driver

Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, has publicly apologised for assaulting an e-hailing driver. The incident, captured on video, sparked widespread condemnation.

In a statement released on Monday, Ikwechegh admitted that his behaviour was unacceptable and fell short of the standards expected of a public official. He expressed regret for the harm caused to the driver, his constituents, and the public.

“I am deeply sorry for my actions and acknowledge that they were unacceptable and unbecoming of a public official,” he said.

Ikwechegh confirmed his cooperation with the Nigerian Police, pledging to support their investigation. He also commended the police for their swift response and commitment to upholding the law.

To address the underlying issues, Ikwechegh stated that he would be seeking professional counselling and engaging in community service initiatives. He called on Nigerians to join him in fostering a culture of respect, tolerance, and understanding.

The incident has led to increased public scrutiny and calls for accountability.
