Nigeria Launches Ambitious Youth Training Program in Data Protection

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have signed a landmark agreement to train 5,000 youths in data privacy and protection.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and 8 Presidential Priorities.

The program aims to equip youths with technical skills for new jobs in the data protection ecosystem, with at least 80% of human capital development targeted at youths, according to the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande.

Key Benefits:

  • Job Creation: Estimated 500,000 new jobs in the data protection ecosystem
  • Foreign Investment: Building trust and confidence to attract foreign direct investment
  • Global Recognition: In-country certification body to issue globally recognized certificates

NDPC’s National Commissioner/CEO, Vincent Olatunji, emphasized the importance of demonstrating accountability in data assets to attract investors. “Nigerian youths now have a great opportunity to become professionals in data protection,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Olubunmi Olusanya, praised NDPC’s commitment to data privacy and protection, ensuring the Ministry’s support for the collaboration’s success.

This initiative is expected to bolster Nigeria’s data protection sector, enhance youth employability, and foster economic growth.
