Peter Obi Mourns Victims of Niger and Oyo Tanker Explosions

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed his condolences over the loss of lives and livelihoods in the recent tanker explosions in Niger and Oyo states.

In a statement on his social media account, Obi described the incidents as “painful” and “disheartening”, particularly given their proximity to each other. He commiserated with the affected families, governments, and people of both states.

Obi said: “I am pained by the loss of human lives and other means of livelihood in these two tragic events. I thank the safety and emergency agencies for their swift response and rescue efforts.”

He added: “I pray that God Almighty forgives the sins of the dead and grants them eternal rest, and grants quick and full recovery to the injured.”

The Niger State tanker explosion, which occurred on Sunday, resulted in the deaths of at least 48 people, with many more injured. A similar incident had occurred in Oyo State just 24 hours earlier, causing significant damage and loss of life.
