Nigeria’s Electoral Institute Holds Training of Trainers Ahead of Edo State Governorship Election

The Electoral Institute in Nigeria has conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) program in preparation for the upcoming Edo State Governorship Election on September 21, 2024. The event, held on September 2, 2024, at the institute’s main auditorium, aimed to equip trainers with the necessary skills to cascade knowledge to election personnel.

In his opening address, Prof. Abdul Abdu Zuru, Chairman of the Board of the Electoral Institute, emphasized the commission’s commitment to improving every election. He highlighted key initiatives, including the use of technology to enhance transparency and credibility.

Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, Director General of the Electoral Institute, noted the high stakes of the Edo State Governorship Election and urged participants to be active and attentive. He also introduced the institute’s E-Training platforms, designed to provide flexible training programs for election personnel.

The technical aspect of the training included hands-on practical sessions on various technologies, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the Improved IReV Mobile App. Presentations were also made by the ICT, E-Operations, Planning & Monitoring, and Gender & Inclusivity departments.

The trained officials are expected to effectively cascade the training to Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, and Assistant Presiding Officers deployed for the election.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Dr. Binta Kasim Mohammed, Director of Training, and representatives from various departments of the commission.
