Nigeria’s power operator restores major transmission line after tower collapse

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi single circuit transmission line to service following the erection of an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower in Yauri.

The critical high-voltage line had been out of operation since 7 September 2026, when Tower 367 collapsed, interrupting power distribution across parts of north-western Nigeria.

Engineering teams worked continuously to dismantle the collapsed structure, realign conductors and skywire overhead, and assemble the emergency replacement tower. Full power transmission was successfully restored on Thursday, 1 October 2026, at 5:24 pm.

In a statement issued by its management, TCN expressed appreciation to affected electricity consumers for their patience during the three-week outage and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a stable national power grid.
