President Bola Tinubu will soon announce a salary increase for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Defence Minister General Christopher Musa (Rtd) has revealed.
Speaking on Monday at a training and financial empowerment workshop for military spouses and widows in Abuja, Musa said the planned pay rise reflects the government’s commitment to boosting troop welfare and morale.
Musa recalled that during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, monthly military pay was increased from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000, adding that fresh efforts were already underway to secure a higher compensation package.
“I am confident that very soon, Mr President will announce another salary increase for our men,” the minister said, emphasizing that a strong military depends as much on stable households as it does on equipment and training.
Support for military families
The workshop, themed Renewed Hope for Families of the Armed Forces of Nigeria Through Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development, was organized by the Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
At the event, SMEDAN Director-General Charles Odii announced the disbursement of ₦25 million to 500 widows and wives of frontline soldiers to support their small businesses and enhance financial inclusion.
Odii confirmed that the empowerment initiative will be expanded nationwide to help military families build sustainable entrepreneurial skills.
