Experts urge Nigerian youth to embrace AI, mentorship for national growth

Experts across healthcare, technology, media, and sports have called for increased investment in youth mentorship, artificial intelligence skills, and healthy living to drive national development in Nigeria.

The call was made during a panel discussion at the 2026 National Diaspora Day Youth Empowerment Summit, organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Abuja.

Moderated by US-based youth development expert Bobby-Diggi Olisa, the panel brought together professionals from Nigeria and the diaspora to discuss innovation, leadership, and health advocacy.

Panelists emphasized that diaspora professionals play a critical role in guiding young Nigerians through professional networking and mentorship, while urging youths to use social media responsibly to advance their careers.

Addressing the future of work, healthcare leader Dr. Faith Adole highlighted the role of emerging technology in career development, noting that AI should be viewed as an asset rather than a threat to jobs.

“Artificial intelligence should be embraced as a tool to enhance productivity rather than replace human talent,” Dr. Adole said, encouraging participants to build digital competencies to stay competitive globally.

The panel also stressed the importance of physical and mental well-being—citing balanced nutrition, exercise, and mental health support as key foundations for long-term professional success.

Organizers concluded the summit by reaffirming their commitment to building stronger links between Nigeria and its global diaspora to support education, skills acquisition, and youth-led innovation.
