Iran war cost US $37.5bn so far, Pentagon chief tells Senate

The United States has spent $37.5bn (£29.5bn) on the war in Iran, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has told lawmakers.

Testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday, Mr Hegseth updated previous military expenditure estimates, which stood at nearly $29bn in mid-May.

The revised total was presented as the Pentagon chief defended a request for approximately $67bn in additional emergency funding for defense operations.

“The estimate we have as of today is $37.5 billion,” Mr Hegseth told senators during the hearing.
