Lokoja, Nigeria — The government of Kogi State, North Central Nigeria, has launched a significant rural electrification project aimed at improving power supply across 30 communities in the first phase.
Governor Ahmed Ododo officially flagged off the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers at a ceremony held at the Government House in Lokoja. The project is designed to enhance development and address persistent electricity shortages in the state’s grassroots areas.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ododo described the initiative as a crucial step in fulfilling his commitment to empowering citizens, especially those in rural areas.
“In the spirit of fairness and equity, I have directed that these 30 transformers be distributed across the three senatorial districts. This ensures that the benefits of this crucial infrastructure project are felt simultaneously and equitably across our state,” Governor Ododo stated.
The Governor emphasised that the installation of the transformers represents more than just a power upgrade; it is an investment in vital sectors such as commerce, education, and healthcare. He stressed that reliable electricity is critical to the state’s industrial drive and its ability to strengthen community security.
The Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Abdulmutalib Mohammed, noted that the initiative directly addresses requests received from communities and follows a rigorous technical assessment of their needs. He confirmed that the project would be rolled out in subsequent phases to cover even more communities across Kogi State.

The Governor concluded by appealing to residents to ensure the new equipment is protected from vandalism and used effectively for the benefit of all citizens.
