Abuja, Nigeria
The Nigerian Federal Government is set to disclose the identities of individuals and networks responsible for financing terrorism across the country, according to President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala.
Speaking on Television Continental on Sunday, Mr. Bwala indicated that the Tinubu administration is taking “far-reaching decisions” on national security that will soon be made public.
Intensifying Counter-Terrorism Efforts
Mr. Bwala stated that the government is intensifying its efforts to counter the extremist threat and will expose those enabling and funding terrorist activities.
“The government is making decisive interventions. In the coming days, Nigerians will know who the terrorists are and those funding them,” Mr. Bwala said.
The presidential aide contextualised the threat, noting that terrorism has evolved into a global menace, which necessitates greater international cooperation to tackle its spread, particularly across the Sahel region.
“Any nation where terrorists operate becomes a concern to the rest of the world. This is why international partners must continue to cooperate with Nigeria in our efforts to dismantle terrorist networks,” he added.
Rejection of Private Military Contractors
The announcement comes shortly after President Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s strong opposition to the growing reliance on private military and security contractors (PMSCs) in conflict zones across Africa.
Speaking at the 7th African Union–European Union Summit, the President (represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima) warned that the involvement of PMSCs undermines state sovereignty and complicates counter-terrorism operations.
Mr. Tinubu argued that peace efforts must be “led and owned by African governments” and that the security challenges, ranging from terrorism to transnational organised crime, require coordinated state-driven responses, not parallel forces that weaken command structures.
