Lokoja, Nigeria
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed that restoring peace, strengthening national security, and improving economic opportunities remain the central priorities of his administration.
The President’s message was delivered by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at a memorial held on Sunday in Lokoja for former Kogi State Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu.
‘Declaration of War’ on Insecurity
Minister Idris told attendees that the Federal Government is fully committed to confronting the significant security challenges currently testing the nation’s resolve.
“Let me be unequivocal: the security and welfare of every Nigerian remain the sacred priority of my government,” the President’s statement read.
The Minister noted that the recently declared State of Emergency on national security is a renewed push to combat threats. He described the move as “a declaration of war against all forms of insecurity.”
“We have immediately begun the process of expanding the capacity of our armed forces and security agencies in numbers, in advanced weaponry, and in intelligence capabilities,” he added.
Championing State Police
A key element of the government’s strategy is the reform of Nigeria’s security architecture. The Minister confirmed that the Tinubu administration is “courageously championing the establishment of a State Police Force.”
The move, described as a “bold, necessary constitutional step,” is intended to create a more localised, community-sensitive security structure to complement the efforts of the national forces and to boost grassroots employment.
The government also stated it is intensifying diplomatic engagement to counter what it calls “false narratives” about Nigeria’s religious harmony on the global stage.
