Lokoja, Nigeria – Captain Idris Wada, a former Governor of Kogi State, is set to officially defect from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and join Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, will formally receive Captain Wada and his supporters into the APC during a ceremony scheduled for Monday at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja.
Governor Ododo is expected to be joined by other state and national leaders of the party at the event, according to a statement from the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah.
A Move for Unity and Development
Captain Wada served as Governor of Kogi State from 2012 to 2016 under the PDP platform, and his defection is seen as a significant political development in the state.Governor Ododo described the former Governor’s decision to join the APC as a “reflection of their shared commitment to peace, progress, and the overall development of the State.”The Governor stated that the inclusion of experienced leaders like Captain Wada would strengthen the state’s efforts to maintain peace, foster cooperation, and accelerate progress across all sectors.
Governor Ododo further suggested that the move demonstrates the success of his administration in uniting the state on a common front to achieve its development agenda.
APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda
The Governor used the announcement to commend President Bola Tinubu’s national leadership, noting that the ongoing wave of high-profile defections to the APC across the country reflects the “strong confidence Nigerians have in his administration and in the party’s renewed hope agenda for national development.” Governor Ododo reaffirmed his commitment to running an inclusive and participatory government, ensuring all members and citizens are treated with fairness and respect, regardless of their former political affiliations.
