Kogi State Governor Unveils 2026 Start Date for Zariagi International Airport

Lokoja, Nigeria – The Governor of Nigeria’s Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has announced that civil works on the proposed Zariagi International Airport are scheduled to begin in 2026.

The announcement was made by Governor Ododo during the 2025 AKK Business Development Roadshow and the strategic launch of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, held at the Government House in Lokoja.

Key Project Details

Construction Start: Governor Ododo confirmed that civil works will commence in 2026.

Design Phase: The state government spent eight months completing the airport’s design phase, which is currently under review by stakeholders.

Investment: The Governor reaffirmed the state’s eagerness to collaborate with both local and international investors, stating that several prospective parties have already expressed interest in supporting the infrastructure development of the Zariagi airport project.

Strategic Vision and Continuity

Governor Ododo highlighted Kogi State’s crucial location, positioning it as a vital connecting point between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions. He stressed his administration’s commitment to continuity and responsible governance, vowing that no project would be abandoned under his leadership. The Governor reiterated his plan to consolidate the achievements of previous administrations and ensure that all ongoing projects are completed on schedule.

The proposed upgrade of the existing Zariagi Airstrip into a full-fledged International Airport was conceived and presented to the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development by the Kogi State government in 2024.
