Electoral Body Vows ‘Credible, Inclusive’ Poll in Anambra State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has declared its complete preparedness for the crucial Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, 8th November 2025, pledging a transparent and credible process for the electorate. INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, gave the assurance following a final high-level inspection of the commission’s operational readiness at its state office in Awka. The visit comes ahead of a key Stakeholders’ Meeting set for Monday, 3rd November 2025.”Our responsibility is to the people of this nation. We are fully prepared to deliver an election that is fair, credible, and reflective of the people’s will,” Prof. Amupitan stated, calling for unity among all stakeholders to ensure a seamless exercise.

Commitment to Technology and Transparency

The Chairman also issued a stern warning against “attempts by vested interests to discredit the process,” emphasising that INEC remains focused on fulfilling its constitutional mandate despite any distractions. Providing a detailed operational update, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, Elizabeth Agwu, confirmed that all non-sensitive materials have been successfully distributed across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.Crucially, Mrs. Agwu disclosed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS)—a key technology for voter authentication—has been fully configured, tested, and certified ready for deployment.Logistics Complete: “We have left nothing to chance. From the training of personnel to the deployment of materials, every necessary step has been taken,” Mrs. Agwu stated, adding that generators have been deployed to guarantee uninterrupted power supply at critical election points.

Partnership

Both the Chairman and the REC stressed the central importance of collaboration with political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, and the media to guarantee the success of the poll. “Transparency and partnership remain the bedrock of our credibility,” Prof. Amupitan affirmed.

Firm Directives for Poll Day

The inspection team, which included several National Commissioners, also visited INEC offices in Oyi and Awka South Local Government Areas to assess final preparations, where materials were being batched for movement. Following the review, Prof. Amupitan issued firm, non-negotiable directives for the conduct of the poll:

Materials Deadline: All election materials must arrive at the polling units by 7:00 am.

Timely Commencement: Polling must begin at 8:30 am without delay.

Result Integrity: Collation must take place in the presence of party agents, and collated results must align precisely with BVAS records.

The INEC Chairman reiterated that robust security arrangements have been put in place to safeguard personnel, voters, and materials throughout the election period.

With these comprehensive assurances, the commission aims to send a strong signal of its operational capacity and unwavering commitment to protecting the integrity of the electoral process in Anambra State. The Anambra governorship election represents a strong test for the new Chairman who is just a few weeks on the job.
