The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has promised a “fair, transparent, and credible” process as he takes charge of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Ekiti State, Southwest Nigeria.Governor Ododo, who is chairing the APC’s Governorship Primary Election Committee for Ekiti, issued a statement through his media aide, Ismaila Isah, assuring that the exercise would reflect “unity, peace, and internal democracy” within the ruling party. His comments come ahead of the APC’s consensus governorship primary scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025, in Ekiti State, where the party will select its candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election. Governor Ododo stressed his commitment to overseeing a process that would be “acceptable to all stakeholders and party members,” adding that his committee would “uphold the integrity and democratic values of the APC.”He assured all parties involved that they would be “carried along” in line with the party’s guidelines to produce a flagbearer. This is not Governor Ododo’s first time presiding over such a crucial party process; he previously chaired the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee in Ondo State in April 2024. Drawing on that experience, he expressed confidence that the Ekiti exercise would be “peaceful and transparent.”His committee’s guiding principles, he stated, remain “fairness and inclusiveness,” aiming to deliver a process that will strengthen the unity of the party in Ekiti State. The APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, announced Governor Ododo’s appointment in a letter detailing the composition of the committee. Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, was named as the Deputy Chairman, with Taiwo Sunmonu serving as Secretary. A list of ten other members was also announced to oversee the consensus primary.
