Harry Maguire seals late Manchester United victory at Anfield

Manchester United claimed a crucial and dramatic 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, with a late header from defender Harry Maguire securing all three points.

The result marks the first time Manchester United have beaten Liverpool at Anfield since 2016 and ends Liverpool’s run of four consecutive defeats across all competitions.

Shock Start and Late Drama

United stunned the home crowd just two minutes into the match when Bryan Mbeumo raced onto a through ball and finished calmly past goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to give the visitors a surprise early lead.

Liverpool dominated possession and created numerous chances throughout the game, with Cody Gakpo repeatedly hitting the woodwork as the team struggled to find a breakthrough.

The intense pressure finally paid off in the 78th minute when Gakpo converted a cross from Federico Chiesa at close range, leveling the score at 1-1.

However, the parity was short-lived. Just six minutes later, United’s captain Bruno Fernandes delivered a precise volleyed cross into the box, and Harry Maguire rose highest to glance the ball across the goal and into the net for the winning goal.

The victory gives Manchester United back-to-back league wins for the first time this season, while Liverpool’s recent struggles continue.
