Kogi Governor Calls for Citizen Intelligence to Tackle Insecurity

Lokoja, Nigeria—

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has appealed to residents to step up their collaboration with security agencies by providing crucial intelligence, a measure he believes is key to winning the ongoing fight against criminal elements across the state.

The Governor made this call during a stopover in the Gegu community over the weekend, where he was welcomed by residents upon his return from national engagements. The statement, released on October 6th, 2025, was signed by Ismaila Isah, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor.

Governor Ododo commended the people of Gegu for their unity and commitment to peace, describing these values as vital for effective community policing and overall security.”I appreciate you all for your love, unity, and commitment to peace,” Ododo said. He stressed that every citizen has a role to play in safeguarding the state.’If You See Something, Say Something’. The Governor urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious movements that could threaten public safety, making clear that intelligence is the “lifeline of security.””If you see something, say something. Intelligence is the lifeline of security, and every citizen has a role to play. We will not allow criminals to take shelter among us,” the Governor stated emphatically. He emphasised that sharing information between communities and security operatives is crucial to maintaining the security gains recorded so far. Governor Ododo assured residents that his administration remains resolute in ensuring criminals find no sanctuary in Kogi State.”We have made significant progress in securing our state, and we must not relent,” he said, vowing that the administration will continue to provide necessary support to security agencies. The appeal comes as the Governor embarks on a working visit to the Yagba Federal Constituency, following recent reports of security concerns in the area. Governor Ododo further called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and youths to serve as the “first line of defence” by volunteering timely and accurate information to aid in crime prevention, arrests, and prosecution.
