Harry Kane Scores Twice as Bayern Defeat Chelsea

MUNICH, Germany—England striker Harry Kane scored two goals to lead Bayern Munich to a 3-1 Champions League victory against a Chelsea side plagued by defensive errors.

Kane, 32, was instrumental throughout the match, converting a penalty he won himself before securing the win with a curled shot in the second half after a mistake from Chelsea’s Malo Gusto.

Chelsea’s struggles began with an own goal from defender Trevoh Chalobah. The visitors, playing in the Champions League for the first time since the 2022-23 season, managed to pull a goal back through a superb shot from Cole Palmer, marking his 100th appearance for the London club.

Despite a promising start, with early chances for Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea were ultimately undone by their defensive lapses. Gusto’s misplaced pass in the 63rd minute was a notable error that led directly to Kane’s second goal.

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, now 39, played his 151st Champions League match, while Chelsea’s entire squad had only 117 appearances at this level combined before the game.

The result means Bayern have now won their opening Champions League match for 22 consecutive seasons. For Chelsea, the focus will now shift to their next Champions League fixture against Benfica, with reports suggesting a return to Stamford Bridge for former manager Jose Mourinho.
