Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci Sets New Jollof Rice World Record

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has been officially confirmed as the new Guinness World Record holder for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice. The confirmed weight of the dish is 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The record was achieved on Friday in a collaborative effort with the Gino brand at an event held in Victoria Island, Lagos. The official confirmation was announced on Monday by Guinness World Records on its X (formerly Twitter) account.

Chef Baci gained international recognition for a previous record-breaking cook-a-thon attempt. This latest achievement, which drew a large crowd of supporters and public figures, has once again placed a global spotlight on Nigerian cuisine.

Ahead of the challenge, Baci stated that the custom-made pot had a capacity of over 22,000 litres. She later told newsmen that she used 200 bags of rice, noting that the final weight, including the pot, had to be kept under the 20,000-kilogramme limit of the measuring equipment. According to her, the final serving was enough to feed 20,000 people.
