Lagos Building Collapse: One Body Recovered, Search Continues

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in Lagos after a three-storey building collapsed, leaving at least one person dead and raising concerns about building safety in the city.

The incident occurred at Alagomeji, Yaba, on Saturday, prompting a multi-agency response from teams including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Fire Services.

NEMA reported that the body of a male victim was recovered from the rubble. So far, four other people have been rescued alive and are reported to be in stable condition.

Speculation remains that at least two more people could be trapped under the debris. Officials on the ground are continuing their search to ensure no one is left behind.

The collapse is the latest in a series of similar incidents in Lagos, which has highlighted ongoing issues with the integrity of construction projects despite repeated government warnings and enforcement efforts.
