Nigeria Expresses Concern Over Reported Israeli Airstrike in Qatar

The Nigerian government has voiced “deep concern” following reports of an Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, on 9 September 2025, which reportedly targeted senior members of the Hamas leadership.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, Nigeria underscored the “primacy of respecting the sovereignty of all nations and adhering to international law.” The statement added that the development “raises serious questions about regional stability and the prospects for ongoing diplomatic efforts.”

The official statement, signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, highlighted Qatar’s “longstanding role in fostering dialogue and mediation in the region.” It called on all parties to “exercise maximum restraint, avoid escalation and recommit to peaceful engagement.”

The Nigerian government extended “heartfelt sympathies” to all those affected by the incident and reiterated its support for initiatives that promote de-escalation and peace. The Ministry concluded by affirming its commitment to working with the international community and the United Nations to advance peace and security in the Middle East.
