INEC: Over 2.5 Million Nigerians Pre-Register to Vote Online

Abuja, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided an update on its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, highlighting the progress of both online and in-person registrations.

According to a press release by INEC’s National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, a total of 2,532,062 Nigerians had pre-registered online as of Sunday, August 31, 2025, which marked the end of the second week of the exercise. Of the online registrants, 51.88% were female and 48.12% were male. A significant portion of the registrants, 63.29%, were between the ages of 18 and 34, with students making up 25.57% of the total.

INEC reiterated that online pre-registrants must complete their registration physically at a designated INEC office to have their fingerprints and facial biometrics captured. The commission stressed that without this in-person step, the online registration is invalid.

For those who prefer or require in-person registration, the process began on August 25. In the first five days, 72,274 citizens completed the process, with 50.71% being female and 49.29% male. Similar to the online figures, the majority of these in-person registrants, 75.71%, were between 18 and 34 years old, and 42.83% were students.

INEC has published detailed breakdowns of the registration figures by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability on its official website. The commission thanked citizens and organisations for their support in the exercise.
