Abuja, Nigeria – The head of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has publicly accepted full responsibility for the recent derailment of an Abuja-Kaduna train, which resulted in injuries to six passengers. The incident occurred in the Kaduna corridor shortly after the train departed Abuja on Tuesday.

Speaking on a local television programme, Kayode Opeifa, the NRC’s Managing Director, said he takes “full responsibility” for the incident and assured the public of a thorough and transparent investigation. He confirmed that while there were no fatalities, four of the injured passengers sustained serious injuries. The NRC plans to follow up with all 618 passengers on board to provide support for any post-traumatic stress.

Opeifa dismissed claims of sabotage or vandalism, stating that the track is monitored by the military. He added that the NRC would conduct a safety audit before resuming services on the line. The railway corporation has suspended all operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route until further notice.
