Abuja, Nigeria – A passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna has derailed, leaving six people injured. The accident occurred at approximately 11:09 a.m. at KM 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the incident and stated that a “go-team” has been dispatched to the site to gather evidence and begin an investigation. According to a statement signed by Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at the NSIB, no fatalities have been recorded.
The statement said the investigation would focus on identifying the direct and underlying factors that led to the derailment, with the aim of issuing safety recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh, expressed sympathy for those injured and emphasised the bureau’s commitment to ensuring safer rail transport through a transparent and independent investigation.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with many passengers fleeing in panic after the train went off the tracks without warning.
