Abuja, Nigeria – Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially appointed a new Director-General and management team for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the country’s state-owned broadcaster. The announcement resolves weeks of speculation about a leadership shake-up at the organization.
In a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the presidency confirmed the appointment of Rotimi Pedro, a sports entertainment executive, as the new Director-General. The move also includes the appointment of three female executive directors:
- Karimah Bello as Executive Director, Marketing (North-West)
- Stella Din Jacob as Executive Director, News (North-Central)
- Sophia Essahmed as Managing Director, NTA Enterprises Limited (North-East)
The new appointees replace the previous management team, which had been in place since late 2023 and early 2024. The announcement follows a period of public confusion fuelled by unverified reports of the former Director-General, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, being removed.
President Tinubu has reportedly tasked the new team with revitalizing the NTA by introducing innovative approaches to strengthen its service delivery and relevance in a rapidly changing media landscape. This overhaul of federal media institutions is seen as part of the president’s broader agenda to modernize public communication platforms.
Pedro, with extensive experience in media and broadcasting, succeeds Dembos, who was appointed in October 2023.
