Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a public alert warning against fraudulent social media accounts impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed. The fake accounts, which have been active on platforms including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram, are being used to solicit money and personal favours from unsuspecting individuals.
According to a press release from the ministry, these accounts are attempting to defraud members of the public by offering fake promises of contract awards and other dubious activities. The ministry stated that these actions are aimed at tarnishing the reputation and integrity of the Permanent Secretary’s office.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that Ambassador Ahmed does not use any personal social media accounts for official or professional business. All formal communications from his office are disseminated exclusively through the ministry’s verified channels, including its official website and authenticated social media handles.
In its statement, the ministry stressed that the Permanent Secretary would “never promise or make offers of contract awards or solicit funds & personal favours through social media or unverified channels.” The ministry has advised the diplomatic community and the general public to exercise extreme caution and to disregard any requests or communications from these fraudulent accounts.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, confirmed that the ministry is working with relevant security and regulatory agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice. The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency in its operations.
