Washington, D.C. – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders have held talks at the White House with President Donald Trump regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

Following the meeting, Mr. Zelensky said they had “very good talks” about “sensitive matters including security guarantees.” Mr. Trump, who has offered to mediate a peace deal, stated that the US will provide security guarantees for Ukraine as part of any agreement, and he claimed that Russia would accept them.

The talks, however, highlighted a division over the path to peace. Mr. Trump said that a ceasefire was not needed to negotiate an end to the conflict, while French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz argued that a ceasefire was essential. Mr. Trump also said he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin later today.
