EFCC Chairman Demands Retraction from Online Newspaper

Abuja, Nigeria – The Chairman of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has demanded a public apology and retraction from the online newspaper, (not Africa Eye News). The demand follows a report by the outlet alleging that Olukoyede forced the head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NNPCL) to resign.

The story, published on August 2, 2025, claimed that Mr. Olukoyede and the Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS) pressured NNPCL GCEO Bayo Ojulari to sign a resignation letter at a “secret rendezvous.” The report also linked the incident to a powerful oil businesswoman and made insinuations about the influence of the First Lady.

In a letter from his legal representative, Mr. Olukoyede described the reports as “unsubstantiated” and “false.” He stated that the publications were damaging to his reputation and accused the newspaper of attempting to portray him as someone who had “betrayed and subverted public trust.”

Mr. Olukoyede’s lawyer has given the newspaper 48 hours to comply with the demands for a retraction and apology. Failure to do so, the letter warns, will result in the EFCC chairman pursuing a defamation lawsuit.
