Nigeria Pledges to Strengthen Trade and Investment with the US

Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s federal government has committed to enhancing trade and investment ties with the United States as part of its strategy to boost economic growth.

The pledge was made during a meeting in Abuja between Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the U.S. Consul General, Rick Swart. According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, the discussions highlighted the long-standing bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Representing the minister, Permanent Secretary Lydia Jafiya, stated that Nigeria is keen to explore new opportunities for investment and innovation, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.” She also said the government is dedicated to creating a favourable environment for foreign direct investment.

In turn, Consul General Rick Swart praised Nigeria’s ongoing reform efforts and reaffirmed the U.S.’s commitment to supporting the country’s economic development. He noted that both nations would continue to seek new opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, and capacity building to promote broad-based economic growth in Nigeria.
