Football: Liverpool’s £110m Bid for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak Rejected

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – Premier League champions Liverpool have indicated they are prepared to abandon their pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak after an initial bid of £110m was rejected. The Swedish international is reportedly valued by Newcastle at around £150m, a figure that Liverpool may not be willing to meet.

BBC Sport understands that as the situation stands, Liverpool officials do not believe a deal for the 25-year-old is achievable this summer. However, it remains uncertain whether this is a firm position or a negotiating tactic.

The bid was made while Isak was reportedly training alone at his former club, Real Sociedad. The striker was also left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, with the club citing a “minor thigh injury.” Despite Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League this season, reports suggest that Isak is keen to explore a move away from the club.

Isak joined Newcastle from La Liga side Real Sociedad in 2022 for a club-record fee of £60m.
