Military Intensifies Operations Against Insurgents in North East

MAIDUGURI, NIGERIA – Nigerian troops, operating under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have intensified offensive and logistics disruption operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements in the North East. These coordinated efforts, involving the Air Component, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters, have yielded significant results between July 15 and 22, 2025.

According to a statement signed by Major General Markus Kangye, Director Defence Media Operations, key operational highlights include the disruption of terrorist logistics, kinetic engagements, and the apprehension of collaborators. On July 15, troops intercepted suspected terrorist supplies in Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, recovering motorcycles, foodstuffs, and other materials. The following day, seven suspected logistics suppliers were arrested with a large cache of consumables. Kinetic operations on July 17 in Gwoza LGA, Borno State, resulted in one terrorist being neutralised, with others fleeing. Multiple ambushes and raids from July 18-22 also led to the neutralisation of several terrorists and the disruption of planned infiltration attempts in Bama, Monguno, and Konduga areas.

Troops also intercepted smuggled petrol concealed in sacks along the Maiduguri–Mafa road, implicating individuals in cross-border fuel smuggling. On July 19, a suspect, Mallam Aminu Idris, was arrested on the Kano–Maiduguri route transporting Starlink equipment, suspected of supplying communication tools to insurgents. The same day, a drug peddler, Mr. Ali Abba, was apprehended en route to Damasak with large quantities of tramadol and diazepam. Operations also led to the recovery of small arms, ammunition, improvised explosive device (IED) components, and communication equipment. On July 20, IED-making materials were recovered in Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, and an infiltration attempt in Monguno was foiled, yielding RPG bombs and other combat-related items.

Furthermore, on July 21, ten family members of terrorists surrendered in Bama LGA, and several collaborators and informants, including a 15-year-old suspected informant, were apprehended. A significant interception on July 22 involved a logistics-laden truck en route to Gamboru from Maiduguri, from which solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other items were recovered. The Armed Forces of Nigeria commended the gallantry of the troops and reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
