ABUJA, NIGERIA – Kogi State in Nigeria’s North-Central region claims to have achieved the lowest number of out-of-school children across Northern Nigeria, a testament to its investments in human capital development. This assertion was made by Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, while representing Governor Ahmed Ododo at the 2025 Blueprint Impact Award Series in Abuja. Governor Ododo was honoured as “Governor of the Year in Human Capital Development” at the event.
Mr. Isah described the award as a recognition of the administration’s strategic investments in both the education and health sectors within a short period. He explained that the Ododo-led government has spent over ₦1 billion (approximately $665,000 USD) on external examination fees for students in public primary and secondary schools across the state in just over a year.
According to Mr. Isah, this intervention has significantly boosted school enrolment and retention rates, leading to Kogi’s current position as having the lowest number of out-of-school children in the northern region, a rating he stated is confirmed by “relevant national statistics.” He added that the administration is also revitalising over 300 primary healthcare centres across the state’s 21 local government areas, further strengthening its commitment to human capital development.
