ACCRA, GHANA – Ghanaian police have thwarted a suspected armed robbery targeting a foreign national in Accra, an operation that resulted in the deaths of two suspects and injuries to a police officer. The incident occurred on Monday, July 15, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
Police stated that credible intelligence indicated five armed men were lodging at a hotel in Labadi, planning an attack in the Cantonments suburb. As the suspects drove towards their target in a Toyota Yaris, they reportedly detected police surveillance and opened fire on the officers, injuring one. Police returned fire, critically wounding two suspects, who were later pronounced dead at the Police Hospital. The injured officer, who sustained gunshot wounds to the legs and underarm, is currently receiving medical attention and is said to be responding to treatment.
Items recovered from the scene include two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, and talismans. A manhunt has been launched for the remaining three suspects who fled the scene. The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and security across the country.
