ABUJA, NIGERIA – The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall, has called for “fresh ideas and brave collaboration” to address complex global challenges such as climate change, technological disruption, inequality, and persistent conflicts.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Premiere Academy International Model United Nations (PAIMUN) in Abuja, co-organised with the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Nigeria, Mr. Fall emphasized the crucial role of young people as “torchbearers of a better tomorrow.” He described the conference, which gathered delegates representing 120 of the 193 UN member states, as “more than a simulation” but “a vibrant space for dialogue, networking, and learning about consensus-building, diplomacy, and public speaking.” This year marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

Delegates at PAIMUN 2025 adopted a resolution by consensus, calling on member states to uphold the UN Charter’s foundational promise of protecting future generations from war. Their resolution urged adherence to international law, intensified diplomacy, peaceful dispute resolution, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and strengthened accountability. They also advocated for the inclusion of youth in decision-making processes and reminded member states of the millions of children globally who remain out of primary school. Furthermore, the delegates called for a stronger multilateral system, with the UN at its core, to be “fit for the present and the future – effective and capable, prepared for the future, just, democratic, equitable and representative of today’s world, inclusive, interconnected and financially stable.”
