Kogi’s LugardTV Marks First Anniversary with Month-Long Celebration

Lokoja, Nigeria – LugardTV, Kogi State’s official online public service broadcaster, is set to begin a month-long celebration to mark its first anniversary. The festivities, announced by Hon. Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, will reflect on the platform’s inaugural year and its impact on connecting governance with the people.

The anniversary programme kicks off on Friday, July 18, 2025, with a community outreach initiative. The events will culminate in a grand finale on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in Lokoja, featuring discussions on the future of media entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

LugardTV was launched in July 2024 with a mission to authentically narrate the Kogi story, encompassing perspectives from the government, its citizens, and the developmental strides achieved under Governor Ahmed Ododo’s administration. Mr. Isah described the platform as “more than a platform, it is a bridge between the government and the people of Kogi State.”

In its first year, LugardTV has produced nearly 1,000 original content pieces, covering vital sectors such as health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, and security. The broadcaster has distinguished itself by offering real-time digital coverage, human-interest stories, and development-focused reporting rapidly gaining a significant audience both within and beyond Kogi State.

Mr. Isah highlighted that LugardTV has also become a valuable training ground for young professionals, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, and interns, fostering a new generation of public service broadcasters.

As part of the celebrations, an “Open House” event will run from Monday, August 11, to Friday, August 15, 2025, allowing the public to experience LugardTV’s behind-the-scenes operations. A “Team Event” on Saturday, August 16, 2025, will recognise the staff’s contributions through bonding activities and role-switching.

The Grand Finale will include a high-level panel discussion, the premiere of a documentary chronicling LugardTV’s first year, the unveiling of new programmes, and an awards ceremony honouring significant contributions to Kogi State’s development.

Mr. Isah urged the public, development partners, and media professionals to join the celebrations and continue supporting LugardTV’s commitment to promoting inclusive and transparent governance through effective communication. He also commended Governor Ododo and other government officials for their crucial support, which has enabled LugardTV’s success in promoting the state government’s programmes and policies.
