LONDON, UK – Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, the widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, in London. The visit comes as preparations are finalised for the repatriation of Mr. Buhari’s body to Nigeria for burial.
Mr. Shettima also visited Mamman Daura, Mr. Buhari’s nephew, who is currently recovering in a London hospital. The Vice President is in the UK as directed by President Bola Tinubu, to oversee the necessary procedures and documentation for the return of the former leader’s remains.
Accompanying Vice President Shettima are several high-ranking officials, including the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia. Former President Buhari passed away in a London clinic on Sunday, having served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, and previously as military head of state between 1984 and 1985. His body is expected to be laid to rest in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, following Islamic rites. President Tinubu has also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff across Nigeria as a mark of respect.
