Arsenal Set to Sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting in £63.5m Deal

London, UK – Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, with a full agreement expected within the next 24 hours for a fee of 73.5 million euros (£63.5 million).

Sources have indicated to BBC Sport that a club-to-club deal is now largely in place, with only minor details remaining to be resolved. All parties involved are working towards finalizing the transfer in time for the 27-year-old Gyokeres to join the Gunners for their pre-season tour in Asia, scheduled for the end of the week.

The offer, which includes add-ons, represents an increase on Arsenal’s previous proposal of 70 million euros (£60 million). Gyokeres has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with the North London club.

BBC Sport previously revealed at the beginning of the month that Arsenal had shifted their focus to Gyokeres after encountering difficulties in their attempts to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta reportedly travelled to Lisbon towards the end of last week to lead negotiations with Sporting.

This weekend, Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas confirmed that Gyokeres was facing disciplinary action for failing to report for pre-season training. Gyokeres, who enjoyed a prolific season scoring 54 goals in 52 games across all competitions last term, has yet to publicly comment on his absence. Varandas told Portuguese news agency Lusa that “no one is above the interests of the club.”

The former Brighton and Coventry striker has made a significant impact during his two seasons in Portugal, scoring 97 goals in 102 matches and helping Sporting secure two league titles.
