Geneva, Switzerland – Nigeria is actively pursuing strategic partnerships with United Nations bodies to accelerate its digital transformation agenda. Kashifu Abdullahi, the Director-General of Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), led a delegation to the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, engaging in discussions aimed at bolstering the nation’s technological capabilities.
At the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), discussions focused on establishing a partnership to leverage UNICC’s advanced computing infrastructure and expertise. Key areas of focus include:
- Establishing an AI Hub, AI Sandbox, and AI Academy in Nigeria.
- Strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity resilience.
- Accelerating the adoption of AI-driven solutions.
In a separate session, the Director-General met with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to explore a joint research initiative. This collaboration aligns with NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0), which covers six emerging technology domains.
These high-level collaborations are in line with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which prioritises economic diversification through industrialisation, innovation, and digitisation. The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) serves as a key global platform for driving inclusive, people-centred digital development through multi-stakeholder cooperation.
