Nigerian Governor Urged to Restore Edo State’s “Glory” After Court Victory

Abuja, Nigeria – Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has been called upon to focus on restoring the state’s “dignity” and “natural place as a leader” following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his victory in the September 21, 2024 gubernatorial election.

Dr. Godwin Aigboviose Omage, Chairman of GAF Africa Foundation and EKI Holdings Ltd., extended his congratulations to Governor Okpebholo in a statement released on July 10, 2025. Dr. Omage remarked, “With the legal contest now conclusively behind us, His Excellency has the full civic and moral authority to govern. The people of Edo expect nothing short of undivided focus, accountability, and impactful service.”

Call for Renaissance

Dr. Omage highlighted Edo State’s rich historical and cultural heritage, referencing its pioneering role in ancient urban development, monumental earthworks (the Benin Walls), bronze artistry, spirited resistance to colonisation, and the enduring Obaship institution.

“This rich legacy is not merely a source of pride, it’s a clarion call. It’s time to revive Edo’s dignity by retaking our natural place as a leader in culture, economy, innovation, and governance,” Dr. Omage urged.

He reaffirmed GAF Africa Foundation’s commitment to supporting the state’s development, stating, “We are prepared to marshal financial resources, both local and international, to support key initiatives that embody Edo’s renaissance. Our foundations and business networks stand ready to serve alongside your administration, working towards measurable and community-focused outcomes.”

Dr. Omage concluded by stressing the importance of “nuisance-free politics” where “all actions must favor the people—transparently, respectfully, and efficiently.” He added, “Edo is the heartbeat of this nation for a reason. Our dignity lies in our glory, and our identity is tied to our history. Governor Okpebholo, now is the time: work with purpose, lead with integrity, uplift our people. We’re here to help restore Edo’s voice on the global stage.”
