Benin City, Nigeria – The South-South zone of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to adopt President Bola Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The decision was made at a zonal stakeholders’ meeting held in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, on Saturday.
In addition to endorsing President Tinubu, the party also adopted its four incumbent governors in the South-South region as sole candidates for the 2027 governorship elections in their respective states.
The governors benefiting from this resolution are Governor Bassey Edet of Cross River State, who also serves as the South-South APC Coordinator, and Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State. The other two governors adopted are Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom State, both of whom recently defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The communiqué outlining these resolutions was read by Victor Giadom, the APC National Vice Chairman for the South-South. The motion for its adoption was moved by the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, and seconded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District. The meeting was presided over by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
