Club World Cup: Real Madrid Edge Dortmund to Set Up PSG Semi-Final

Atlanta, USA – Real Madrid will face Paris St-Germain in a highly anticipated Club World Cup semi-final after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund. The Spanish giants looked to be in complete control, holding a two-goal lead for much of the match.

Gonzalo García opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the tournament, and Fran García doubled Real’s advantage, courtesy of an assist from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, the game exploded into life in injury time. Maximilian Beier pulled one back for Dortmund in the second minute of added time. Moments later, Kylian Mbappé acrobatically volleyed in a third for Real Madrid, seemingly putting the game beyond doubt.

But the drama continued as Real Madrid’s Dean Huijsen was sent off for conceding a penalty, which Serhou Guirassy converted for Dortmund. Borussia Dortmund then almost snatched an equaliser deep into the 10th minute of added time, but Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois produced a crucial save to deny them.

Real Madrid’s narrow win sets up a mouth-watering semi-final clash against Paris St-Germain, who earlier defeated Bayern Munich.
