Wimbledon: Djokovic Dominates Evans in Straight Sets

London, UK – Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic delivered a commanding performance at Wimbledon today, dispatching British veteran Dan Evans in straight sets. The 38-year-old Serb secured a dominant 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 victory in their second-round match on Centre Court.

Evans, currently ranked 154th in the world and playing on a wildcard, struggled to counter Djokovic’s formidable serving, which at times left the 35-year-old shaking his head in disbelief. The home favourite managed to win just 9 of his 58 receiving points (16%) throughout the match, despite the encouraging support from the Centre Court crowd.

Djokovic, seeded sixth this year, also showcased his renowned returning skills, converting six of his 16 break points. This impressive display from the 24-time Grand Slam champion puts him in strong contention as he aims to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles. He is also seeking a standalone record 25th major trophy, his last Grand Slam win being the 2023 US Open.

“Everyone knew it was going to be a special atmosphere today – a Brit in Britain is never easy to face,” Djokovic said after securing his 99th match win at Wimbledon. “He’s a good quality player who possesses a lot of great talent, a great touch and, with the ball staying low with the slice, it can cause trouble if you’re not at the top of your game. But I think I was. I executed perfectly. Sometimes you have these days where everything flows.”

Djokovic’s win sets up an all-Serbian third-round clash against Miomir Kecmanovic, with a spot in the last 16 on the line. This match could potentially be Evans’ final appearance at the All England Club.
