Liverpool and Portugal Star Diogo Jota Dies in Spain Car Crash Alongside Brother

Madrid, Spain – Liverpool and Portugal international Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 following a car crash in Zamora, Spain, the Guardia Civil has confirmed to the BBC. His brother, André Filipe, also died in the incident.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 00:30 BST (01:30 CEST). Authorities reported that the car, a Lamborghini, left the A-52 motorway near Palacios de Sanabria due to a tyre blowout while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The car subsequently caught fire, and both brothers were confirmed dead at the scene.

The news has sent shockwaves through the footballing world, coming less than two weeks after Jota married his wife, Rute Cardoso, on 22 June 2025. The couple had shared a post on social media following their wedding, simply stating: “Yes, forever.”

Jota was a key forward for Premier League club Liverpool and a significant player for the Portuguese national team, widely admired for his tenacity, versatility, and goal-scoring ability. Tributes have begun pouring in for the talented player and his brother.
