Enugu, Nigeria – Enugu State, in Nigeria’s South-East region, is set to launch its own commercial airline, Enugu Air, on Monday, July 7, 2025. The state government announced the development in a statement released on Thursday.
According to the state government, Enugu Air is a key component of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s broader vision to establish a modern, multimodal transport ecosystem and transform Enugu into a major aviation hub.
The launch ceremony will take place at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, with Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, among the dignitaries expected to attend.
Obi Ozor, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, stated that Enugu Air will commence operations with an initial fleet of three Embraer E170 and E190 series aircraft. These aircraft were chosen for their “efficiency, comfort, and adaptability to the regional market.”
The airline’s inaugural routes will establish a “golden triangle” with Enugu at its centre, connecting Abuja and Lagos. Subsequent expansion plans include routes to Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and other strategic cities across Nigeria and potentially beyond.
“With a strong foundation of innovation and sustainability, we are ready to redefine air travel, instill pride, and elevate Enugu’s prominence on the national and global stage,” Ozor said, adding, “Let the countdown begin—Enugu Air is ready for takeoff.”
