Abducted Bus Passengers Freed in Benue State, Nigeria

Makurdi, Nigeria – Passengers kidnapped from a Benue State Transport Company bus, widely known as Benue Links, have reportedly regained their freedom, just one week after their abduction. The bus, travelling from Abeokuta in Ogun State to Makurdi, the Benue State capital, was intercepted by gunmen at Eke, in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, on Sunday, June 22nd.

Sources indicate the victims were freed on Sunday afternoon, seven days after the incident. This development follows earlier statements from the Benue State Police Command, which had deployed a combination of security forces and drones in a rescue operation.

Upon their release, the passengers were reportedly received at the Okpokwu Divisional Police Station. Two individuals said to be in critical condition were immediately transferred to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The Information Officer for Benue Links, Ehi Johnson, confirmed the release on Sunday evening, though he noted that the circumstances surrounding their freedom remained “sketchy.” He stated that more information would be made public soon.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, indicated she had yet to receive a formal report concerning the passengers’ release.
