Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has issued a strong statement alleging a “coordinated sabotage campaign” targeting its leadership. The state-owned oil company claims a syndicate of both internal and external actors is actively disseminating false information to discredit its ongoing transformation efforts.
In a public notice released on Friday, NNPC Ltd. stated that these groups are spreading “lies and misinformation” with the aim of derailing the organisation’s shift towards becoming a “corruption-free, performance-driven energy company.” This transformation, the company emphasized, aligns with the mandate of the Nigerian President. The NNPC detailed the tactics employed by the alleged saboteurs, which include “planting scandalous and fabricated reports.” These actions are reportedly designed to distract the leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the dedication of the company’s workforce and Nigerians supportive of reform. The company characterized these efforts as “calculated” moves by individuals who feel “threatened by reform, transparency, accountability, and change.” The statement described this as “clear evidence of the lengths to which they will go to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution.”NNPC Ltd. anticipates a “surge of defamatory content in the days and weeks ahead” but affirmed its resolve, stating, “NNPC Ltd. remains undeterred. The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it.” The management urged its staff, stakeholders, and “all patriotic Nigerians” to remain focused, disregard the “noise,” and not be discouraged, reiterating that the company “remain[s] on mission.”
