Nigerian Governor Promises Crackdown After Killing of Retired Soldier

The Governor of Kogi State in Nigeria, Ahmed Ododo, has vowed a strong response to criminal activity in the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area and other parts of the Kogi West Senatorial District following the killing of a retired military officer, Joe Ajayi.

The Governor made his pledge during a condolence visit to the family of Joe Ajayi in the Odo-Ape community. He expressed his sympathy to the bereaved family and the wider community for their loss.

Governor Ododo described the deceased as a true patriot who served Nigeria with honour and dedication. He stated that his death at the hands of criminals was not only deeply upsetting but also a catalyst for action.

“We are here to sympathize with the family for the loss of our brother,” the Governor said. “I was personally touched when I heard about his death. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will remain. It would be a disservice to his memory if we fold our arms and allow criminals to take over our land.”

Ahmed Ododo assured the residents of Odo-Ape and the entire Kogi West region that his administration would utilise all necessary resources to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice and that peace and security are restored to the area.

He warned that the state government would no longer tolerate the unregulated influx of criminal elements disguised as investors. He stressed that traditional leaders must exercise greater caution in allocating land in the future.

The Governor, who also inspected a security post in the community, cautioned traditional leaders against indiscriminately allocating land to individuals with unclear identities and intentions.

“Any individual or group found aiding or abetting crime in any community will face the full force of the law,” he stated.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the deceased’s younger brother, Titus Ajayi, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Ododo for his visit and support during their time of grief. He noted that the visit provided significant comfort and assurance that justice would be served.
