MultiChoice Nigeria Halves Price of DStv Decoder

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a significant price reduction for its DStv decoder, slashing the cost by 50% from 20,000 Naira to 10,000 Naira.

The pay-TV company stated that the move aims to attract new customers and address a decline in subscriber numbers.

According to MultiChoice Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer John Ugbe, the offer, announced on Tuesday, is also intended to reward customer loyalty and provide greater value to subscribers. He said in a statement that the company wants to ensure customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment.

The company is repositioning DStv as a platform offering daily value across various genres, including movies, drama, children’s programming, and news, aiming to encourage viewers to explore a wider range of content.

MultiChoice Nigeria has also introduced a promotional offer where subscribers who pay for their current plan in full between 16 June and 31 July 2025 will receive a free upgrade to the next higher DStv package tier.

The company maintained that the price reduction and the free upgrade initiative are a response to the current economic challenges faced by many Nigerians. This follows a loss of 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.

It is worth noting that MultiChoice Nigeria had previously increased its prices for DStv and GOtv bouquets three times within a 12-month period, starting in April 2023, followed by further hikes in November 2023 and May 2024.
