Lagos, Nigeria – Streaming giant Netflix has increased its subscription prices in Nigeria for the third time in less than a year. This latest adjustment marks the first price hike by the company for 2025.
Updates on Netflix’s website indicate the new monthly charges. The Premium plan now costs ₦8,500 (approximately $5.70 USD), up from ₦7,000. The Standard plan has risen to ₦6,500 from ₦5,500, while the Basic plan is now ₦4,000 from ₦3,500. The Mobile plan has also seen an increase to ₦2,500 from ₦2,200.
These increases follow two previous price adjustments by Netflix in April and July 2024. The move comes as Nigeria faces significant economic challenges, including rising living expenses, a depreciating local currency (Naira), and record inflation rates.
The streaming service’s decision mirrors broader trends in the Nigerian telecommunications and entertainment sectors. Recently, Nigerian telecom providers implemented tariff hikes of up to 50 percent. Furthermore, MultiChoice, the parent company of satellite television services DStv and GOtv, introduced new prices effective March 1, 2025. For DStv, the Compact bouquet increased by 25 percent from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000, with other packages seeing similar rises. GOtv subscribers also faced increased costs across their various plans.
Netflix has yet to issue an official statement regarding these latest price adjustments in Nigeria.
